Glaciers are one of Iceland's most impressive and exotic natural landscapes. The site is also located on Skaftafell Glacier in southern Iceland. To study the potential threats and challenges of global warming to glaciers.
In the light of current climate change, it is expected that the glaciers will continue to melt, leading to melt-water flows and potentially causing floods in the lower reaches of the glaciers. Predicting the direction and scale of future melt flows and identifying the range of possible floods, as well as developing effective mitigation and adaptation strategies to minimize the impacts of floods and on the natural ecosystems of communities, are essential.
Landscape Architects play a key role in meeting and adapting to these challenges. Developing Resilient, sustainable, and innovative solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change is a core goal of this initiative.
