Bio

Hi! I’m Shihui and I'm an illustrator currently based in Edinburgh. Born and raised in Hong Kong, my inspiration comes from the city’s mixed Eastern and Western cultures, as well as my desire to be close and connected to nature as an escape from the fast-paced city lifestyle. My interest lies in concept art and environmental storytelling through interior illustrations and background paintings. I enjoy capturing the mundane and quiet moments of daily lives, playing with light along with the exploration of place and setting to encapsulate the magic of a scene. My work often has strong ties to my personal stories and struggles with health, with recurring themes of wellbeing and finding solace in nature and everyday environments. Just as I find it comforting and healing in creating art, I hope to bring comfort to and resonate with others through my illustrations as well.

Reimagined Alice in Wonderland

A personal visual development project based on on my own interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice in Wonderland, exploring narratives of dreams and insomnia through environmental storytelling. This project focuses on background paintings and layouts for a story set in Alice's bedroom.
