Bio

In my practice, I respond to environmental issues through both indirect and direct approaches. For example, sometimes I am primarily a communicator/educator. In this more indirect role, I aim to translate environmental issues into a language that is accessible and relevant to non-experts or those who may not otherwise engage with the environment. Often, projects where I act as a communicator are about enabling others to engage and act in relation to environmental issues rather than directly tackling these myself. However, sometimes my work tackles environmental issues more directly. For example, I am currently working on a project where I am exploring illustration-based alternatives to unsustainable events merchandise.

Sustainable Merch Design

As a mock brief, I designed, illustrated, and printed a range of sustainable merch for the 7 Hills Race in Edinburgh. I primarily researched and experimented with tshirt design. However, I also explored paper based merch as an alternative to tshirts. I published my findings in a short booklet for other illustrators, event organisers and anyone else interested.

Holyrood Park: a deepmap

A non-fiction picture book written and illustrated by me which aims to engage people with a local green space (Holyrood Park) and ultimately encourage environmental stewardship. Each chapter focuses on a place within the park and its stories: environmental, historical, and social.

Illustration on a Dying Planet

A short booklet based on my dissertation research which explored ‘to what extent illustrators could tackle environmental issues?’. I aimed to present my findings in a format that was useful for other illustrators and anyone else interested.
