Bio

I am an illustrator that creates imaginative and surreal illustrations that connect and console people. As a Hong Kong illustrator based in the UK, I strive to connect people, not just in the UK, around the world to the Hong Kong culture. Living in the UK for 9 years has allowed me to utilise aspects of that in my work as well. I also like to explore the theme of well-being in an expressive style. I continue to explore ways in which I can more effectively translate these intangible yet authentic themes in a more comprehensible and impactful way. I believe that having a childlike mind is key to being imaginative and creative. I take pride in being an illustrator. In a society that is so grounded in reality and by rules, art is one of the few things that transcend all boundaries and blur the barriers between different cultures.

"Hope Carries On" Wall Scroll

This piece was inspired by two poems that I like a lot. The first poem is Kissing in Vietnamese by Ocean Vuong which provides a glimpse into the lives of people who have lived through war and how the effects echo through their lives even after the war is over. The second poem is “Hope” is the Thing with Feathers by Emily Dickinson which metaphorically transformed hope as a strong-willed birds that continue to sing even in the harshest circumstances.

As the grandma peers out of the window, she sees into her past - torn with war and conflicts. Yet hope transcends all space and time. Materialising as birds, hope brought the promise of a better future to the grandma of the past. This represents the power of hope that inspired all of us in the past to carry on to the present moment. As children, we may often hear stories from our elderlies, of a time when life was tougher and harsher. Oblivious to the raw hardship and emotions that they have experienced, we can only relate to their past through figments of our imaginations. This highlights the perspective of how our experiences are tied to time. While our elderlies may have lived through their past up till the present, our lives in our “past” has only just begun in the “present”. And just as it has been, hope will carry on and inspire us for the future.

"Uprooted" A wordless comic

As an illustrator I often reflect on what I can contribute to the world. So many people go through uncertainties in their lives as social, political and military conflicts unfolds around them. By sharing stories of exodus around the world, I hope I can bridge common experiences shared by people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. Together, they may find solitude in these daily struggles that they go through.
