Bio

Figurative narrative painting is the focus of my art practice. Depicting moments from folk tales and my own experiences, I use visual language drawn from nature, prehistoric art, spirituality and the supernatural.

In contemporary mainstream British society transgender identity is scapegoated, medicalised, and misunderstood. I use painting to re-root trans narratives in culture, wrapping them in the atemporal earnest beauty of folk art, to show their mystical properties and wisdom.

With symbols, I construct theories of mind – figures become translucent, recombined, inhuman. Drawing from wider folk-art traditions centred around people and land, my practice includes ceramics, comics and murals.
