Beatrice Parkes works predominantly within the medium of painting, to hand sculpt her vision of a sexually liberated alien formed alternative universe. Her paintings are inspired by camp pop culture, but given a fluffier, sexier, more limb like lift. Merging the 60’s perception of futuristic with a contemporary flare. Her work embodies feminine power, sexual liberation and a bold exploration of colour. Her work has a tongue in cheek attitude towards the male gaze, through her loud and unapologetic work, following feminist themes in a playful manner. Deconstructing the way humans gawk at women, something a lesbian alien stripper would never be caught dead doing!
The female form is a central theme throughout her practise, using it to inspire new interpretations of womanhood, femininity and sexual liberation through painting, performance and gestural ink drawings.
