Bio

Zhihan Li is a contemporary artist who works in the fields of theatre art and video art.

Zhihan's works explore interactivity between artwork and audience. She primarily investigates themes revolving around history, the present, and the future. By studying historical texts and relics, she aims to explore the relationship between these three aspects and incorporate philosophical discussions into her work. Finally, she uses physical performance and collage techniques to create art pieces that showcase her thoughts to the audience.

Youzhou Tower

This piece was originally inspired by the ancient Chinese poem The Distant View on Top of Youzhou Tower:

Men there have been, --I see them not

Men there will be,--I see them not.

The world goes on, world without end.

But here and now, alone I stand in tears.

A woman crawling on the ground.
"LOOP/YouZhouTai", Zhihan Li, 2023

The poem expresses a feeling of dissatisfaction and anger towards the author's real life, which makes me relate to some of the current social moods:

There is a state of futility in some contemporary people's lives; looking back, history is long gone, and although history is studied in school, in reality some people rarely use them in real life; at the same time, they are confused about the future, the world is developing so rapidly that it is difficult to foresee what the future will hold. But at the same time, their lives in the present are confused and empty.

CONTINUE

Continue is a video work thatwhich consists of a series of photographs of stones, hands and stone carvings. Stones have been around for a long time and can be seen everywhere in our lives, but at the same time they are also the most overlooked. The work uses the hands as the representative of life and demonstrates the continuation and inheritance of life in stone by bringing these pictures together.
