Darning between old and new
Live Work Home
By reconsidering architecture's relationship with existing structures, embodied materials and waste. Working directly with Scottish buildings at risk of demolition and the associated stakeholders. I incorporate earth material with an existing steel frame structure, and the program transforms the closed-down Debenhams store with poor thermal performance into a passively heated building that combines dwelling and workplace. The material systems employed in this architectural project have been specifically designed to establish a circular economy.
The project acts as a prototype of a Live-Work unit in Edinburgh, consisting of 16 residential units oriented south direction, a collection of various additional communal spaces, an open market, a public earth workshop, and a roof garden and exhibition space across different levels. In my scheme, a single room constitutes the basic unit attached to communal spaces. These shared spaces provide a framework for dwelling, working and production. It concentrates on makers and creators as the primary user group.
