The John Lane community centre aims to complete two primary tasks. The first is to clarify the relationship between the social and urban context of the Leith Local community by simplifying the food movement from suppliers to consumers. The second is to merge two local Leith charities of, Earth in Common (EIC) and Empty Kitchens Full Hearts (EKFH), with a building project on a site in south Leith, Johns Lane.
From an Architectural perspective, the project will aim to increase timber’s service lifespan and durability through a meticulous site investigation and understanding of material quality and other potential uses of timber after it’s conventional function.
The project aims to personally support the community with indoor and outdoor spaces for gatherings and workshops while housing the functions of both charity organisations.
