My Work
Caelan is a Welsh transmasculine artist living in Edinburgh. There is a tension in his work between caging and cradling in the natural materials he picks. His work is inspired largely by the forests of their childhood and his experience of growing up queer in a small village. He uses his writing to flesh out his feelings surrounding his identity and environment. His background in medieval art history also influences their work. The genderfluid depictions of Christ and interest in Christ’s blood feeds into his work through the use of his own period blood as a material and abstract representations of the martyred or hunted body. Biblical writing with its rich nature imagery and by turns violent and romantic language has also influenced his writing and artwork.
He is passionate about queer art and representation and was on the organising team for recent exhibition, Queer as Muck, which brought together queer artists who dealt with ecological and natural themes in their work.
