Cloister of the Moon

Project Description

The series of illustrations “Cloister of the Moon” depicts a spiritual palace located in the world of dreams, inspired by visiting a church. The word “cloister” is based on the Latin word claustrum, which stands for “lock”, “closure”, and also means seclusion, it connects the various buildings of the abbey and is a place of “in-between”, I designed it as a passageway between reality and the realm of the spirit, a palace of nothingness. The “Cloister of the Moon” houses creatures from the world of dreams with diverse personalities, in the hope that they will introduce the viewer to an inverted, mythical world.

"The embryo of existence is the embryo of a dream."

In this series, I was inspired by medieval manuscripts as well as Renaissance artworks, exploring the connection between the body and the spirit, between reality and the mystical realm by using the symbolism of signs, while at the same time I hope to create a dialogue with the viewer, thus giving new meanings and interpretations to these works.
