Panhu King

In ancient times, the Gaoxin King had a daughter who was very beautiful and had not yet married. When the Quanrong rioted at that time, King Gaoxin made a promise that whoever could pacify the rebellion would marry his daughter. Gaoxin had a dog named Panhu, who rushed out of the camp for three months and killed Quanrong, and came back with his head in his mouth and told Gaoxin that he could turn into a human being by locking himself up in a barn for seven days and seven nights, but because Gaoxin's daughter was very worried, she opened the door of the barn to see him on the sixth day and sure enough, he had turned into a human being but his head hadn't had time to turn into a human being yet. But Gao Xin's still kept his promise and married his daughter to him.

Flying Heads

"Flying head" from the south of China, the Qin Dynasty when someone has seen, the head can fly away from the body, also known as "chongluo". During the Three Kingdoms period, General Zhuheng of Eastern Wu had a maid whose head would fly away every night after she fell asleep. Sometimes she would fly out through a dog hole under the wall, sometimes through the skylight, using her ears as wings. It was said that the day before such a person's head flew out, there would be a red mark on her neck, and at night she would fly to the bank of a river and look for crabs, frogs, worms, and other things to eat in the wetlands, and would only come back when it was light.

Merman

It is said that in the South China Sea, there lives a monster called "merman", who lives in the sea, looks like a fish, but is good at weaving. When they shed tears, the tears that fall from their eyes turn into pearls. In the Qing Dynasty, a man named Jing Sheng saved a mermaid who was expelled from the Dragon Palace. In order to repay him, the meran  remembered his hometown and cried day and night, and gave Jing Sheng 10,000 pearls. Jing Sheng used these 10,000 pearls to marry his beloved girl.

Messenger of Dongcang

At the end of the alley there was a dilapidated house in which lived an old woman. She had no children and her husband had passed away, so she had to beg for a living and often went hungry. One day, as the old woman was preparing to rest, she suddenly heard someone speak in her ear, "You are so poor, I will help you." The old woman was startled; she turned her head and did not see anyone. The voice continued, "Don't be afraid, I mean no harm. I have put some money at the end of your bed, you can take them to buy rice, you don't have to beg from door to door anymore. Go and see." The old woman was half-convinced, but she really found the money at the end of her bed. She said happily, "Thank you! You must be a fairy, right? May I ask your name?" "You may call me the Messenger of Dongcang." The voice replied. From that time on, Dongcang Messenger often sent money and food to help the old woman, but he never gave more than enough to support her. As time went by, the old woman was no longer afraid of the messenger, but was grateful to him from the bottom of her heart.

Winged tiger

The winged tiger comes from Baoshi Mountain, lurking in the morning and appearing at noon, with two wings under its coats like bats, eating people when it flies, and is difficult to be caught. Legend has it that the skin of the winged tiger can ward off evil spirits.

Winged tiger

This project actually first came from the book "Tales of Chinese Goblins and Monsters". In it, it records the origins of 1008 types of demons and how they were named. I guess since it originated in China, So I got the idea to draw the illustrations myself.
