This project aimed to create a textile collection that soothes stress and anxiety (caused by technology ever evolving) through contrasting textures. This collection has been about working with the digital, as a creative, and how powerful it can be to turn something that is usually just on a computer screen into the real world. Softwares like Loop and Chatgpt have been used to show the incredible potential of AI. Although amazing, it is also pretty terrifying. Therefore, this collection discusses the digital vs physical and how important it will always be to have that sense of connection through touch. Due to these elements, the imagery is focused on generative art, stemmed from shapes taken from the hand. These designs then formed prints done both digitally and manually. Fabric manipulation (mainly pleating) created different textures on these prints as well as using flock and devore techniques. However, a variation of both flat and manipulated designs can be seen throughout the collection, or samples that have a combination of both. This demonstrates the narrative of digital vs physical further. The colour palette focuses on ‘digital’ colour (inspired by metaverse trends), looking at how to achieve this ‘glow’ or shine you would get through a digital screen. Very shiny silks were used which already had this finish as well as foils. Monochrome prints also featured. This contrast continues to reflect the concept.
