Fire Island

One of Edinburgh’s best kept secrets is that Waterstones on Princes Street used to be a popular gay nightclub in the 80’s. Fire Island acted as a safe space people within the community to go and be themselves. After looking at old archives and speaking to locals who adored the club I knew I wanted to create something that celebrated it. Alongside the zine comes a Fire Island bandana. These were used by club goers to signal their sexual preferences to one another.

Banana Music

Gaining a better understanding of Leith’s industrial history and it’s thriving community. After spending time in the industrial  and residential areas I found a hidden gem closer to the city, a hand-made skatepark hiding behind a block of flats. It was here I got talking to some local skaters and recorded some audio footage of them skating on the ramps. I then took these sounds and mixed them to create different songs. Using a range of found objects from the industrial area I was able to create the music book. If you’re ever looking for a banana go to Leith - they are everywhere.

This One Is For You

This One Is For You is a project that focuses on music memories. To contribute to the project users anonymously submit their song and memory on the website. These are then sorted into categories to create a CD made up of strangers memories that share the same theme. The CD comes with a CD player so the user can fully immerse themselves in the memory they are reading as they listen to the song that it is paired with.

Design Agency Handbook

A design agency handbook to help new creative directors. This documents my time as a creative director at Studio Baseline. Baselines ethos is to “create upwards”, this prompted the idea of layers. Each chapter is made up of three layers and has a sheet of acetate that corresponds with this.

Luck of the Lottery

Their physicality and often questionable designs make it easy to fall in love with them but who actually knows about their history. As scratchcards are a development of lottery I started to investigate different lotteries around the world. This is when I discovered a range of odd stories and what better way to share these than through a scratchcard.
