In the book "Reciprocal Landscapes Stories of Material Movements", Jane Hutton reveals the concept of “material flow”, which erases the physical nature of materials and resources, and as a result, the scale of their extraction and what consequences for the environment and society this brings. “The concept of “material flow” conjures flowcharts with neutral arrows darting around the page, indicating the unidirectional movement of abstract material streams between extraction and use sites.” [1]
The future University of Derry research project, prepared by a group Quarry Worries and Murphy’s Law, aims to draw attention to resource use and landscape restoration through architectural design.
