About The Picnic

The Picnic highlights the struggles of mental health, such as PTSD, things that people are not always aware of. I had to decide on the best way to  approach and highlight PTSD, my initial thoughts were to create a documentary with narration however, I felt that a short, fictionalised drama  about mental health, love and courage would be better, and hopefully reach a wider audience base.

PTSD is a hidden illness and more help and resources are needed to cope with this illness. In most situations medication and psychological help can often let people lead normal everyday lives. In the military and even today PTSD can end the career of military personnel, this is the prime reason many military personnel will not admit they suffer from PTSD. This short film follows 2 characters, a husband and wife, while we focus on the main character Lewis and his inner battle, while trying to remain strong and wear a brave face, he is an Air Force pilot, we begin to watch his mental health begin to get out of control as reality becomes mixed with intrusive flash backs.

The aim of this short film is to highlight to the audience that everyone has their own battles going on, and that asking for help isnt a sign of weakness but a sign of strength.
