Project description

For my final project I wanted to explore and focus on the construction techniques and textiles that went into my costume, including the creation and use of props to take my skillset further.

Spiller from the Borrowers, Written by Mary Norton

For my first project I redesigned the beloved children's story 'The Borrowers' to be set in 1940s Scotland, using well known logos and packaging from the time scaled up to become oversized to give the affect of becoming 10cm tall. Through the use of props and breakdown of fabrics the effect of a well worn borrower who survives outside in the garden is created.

Buttercup from Buttercup Fairy, Written by CAM

For Buttercup fairy I wanted to create a ballet aimed at children based on a book from my childhood- Buttercup fairy by CAM, written in the 1940s. Through the styles of Art Deco and Art Nouveau I based by costume on the theme of creating a stained glass effect through the use of black outlines corresponding with iridescent fabric.
